been a while

So it’s been a really long time since my last blog. Not much has changed since then. I haven’t been playing much at all b/c my internet (AT&T DSL) is so terrible. Since my last blog, I’ve come to realize why I don’t blog regularly… the few poker blogs I try to read annoy the hell out of me (yes, you Monkey). Everyone uses their blog to whine about their bad beats and bad luck. No one wants to read all your excuses as to why you don’t win at poker. In the future, I’m not even going to post my bustout hands because of this. They may be interpreted as an excuse for me to post bad beats. The only hands I’ll post in this blog are going to be deemed interesting by myself.

Things seem to be picking up with High Stakes Brands. We’re almost finished with Melyssa Grace’s site, and we have a few potential high-profile clients on the horizon.

I’ll be playing poker tomorrow (yes I’ll blog during my session) instead of going to the parade that passes in front of my house back home. I was going to go just to hang out and catch up with old friends even though I hate parades, but the weather looks like it’s going to suck… makes a great excuse to stay home and try to win money instead. I really don’t understand the whole point of Mardi Gras. It seems really pointless to me to waste such large amounts of money to throw beads at people and get nothing in return. I guess it’s fun to people who drink, but it just seems incredibly pointless now that I’m an adult who doesn’t drink. I sure as hell have no clue why people travel here just for these parades.

I’m going to be offering poker coaching in the very near future as you can see by the “Coaching” tab on my main page. I’ll have several options and prices. Feel free to contact me now if you’re interested even though the tab doesn’t work yet.

1/30/11 blog that was never posted

Been a while since I blogged, and I’ve been encouraged to start doing so. As always, I’ll try to get into a habit of doing so. Here’s a blog I was supposed to post back on January 30th but never got around to. It’s basically just my schedule, buyins, profit, and bustout hands. It was a rough day overall to say the least, but I made the most of my few cashes.

wpt biloxi

I really need to figure out a way to get in the habit of blogging more often. It’s kinda pointless to have this site if I don’t update it frequently. I’ll do my best to get into a routine and stick to my Wednesday and Sunday poker updates if nothing else. It was very hectic playing on 9+ tables and trying to blog at the same time. I should be able to do it if I leave the hand histories out of it.

I’m heading to Biloxi on Monday to play several events in the World Poker Tour circuit. I ended up selling most of my action in $24,000 worth of buyins and will “only” have 35% of myself there. Now that I’m married, it’s hard for me to throw around that kind of money with the strong possibility of losing it. I feel alot more responsibility now and feel the need to reduce my personal variance in these bigger buyin events by selling shares of myself. Hopefully I’ll hit something big out there and make my investors proud.

Here is my schedule:
January 18th – NLHE – $1,000+$70
January 19th – NLHE – $1,500+$80
January 20th – PLO Championship – $2,500+$100
January 21st – NLHE – $2,500+$100
January 22nd – NLHE – $1,000+$60 Mega Satellite to $9,700+$300 NLHE Championship
January 23rd – NLHE Championship – $9,700+$300
January 24th – NLHE Heads Up – $2,500+$100
January 25th – 8-Game Mix – $2,500+$100

I’ll be posting updates on twitter as usual (www.twitter.com/thechemist83). I’ll hopefully be skipping a few events along the way as I make some day 2s and final tables. I’ve been sick what feels like all 2010. I haven’t put in much volume online or live because of it. I’m hopeful to remain healthy this year and actually put together a schedule online that I can actually stick to. The current plan is to play all day Sunday, Monday night, all day Tuesday, and Wednesday night. We’ll see how it goes.

f titles

I really hate that I feel obligated to title every blog I post.  I imagine all nonpoker blogs will mostly be me rambling about various topics.

Firstly, the Atlanta/Baltimore game was extremely boring tonight.  I could have gone without the first 3 quarters.  The last quarter was very interesting until the refs decided they needed Atlanta to win the game.  I was really pulling for Baltimore for the Saints’ sake.  I really thought the AFC was much better than the NFC this year, but the “best” NFC teams are beating the “best” AFC teams lately.  This doesn’t mean much since the NFC teams have been the home team in pretty much all of these games, but I guess it’s much closer than I originally thought.

This Cam Newton stuff is really making me mad.  Who cares how much money he took, didn’t take, wanted to take, asked for, rabble rabble.  It’s time they man up and pay these college athletes or deal with them taking free money, cars, and houses.  Most of the “superstars” come from poor backgrounds.  Do they really expect them to turn down absurd amounts of money?  Punish the people that give it to them if you want to punish someone.  Let the guy play.  He’s clearly the MVP of college football this year.  Auburn would be a 500 team without him, and I think they’ll win it all with him assuming they can get past Alabama.  Hell, put them in the title game even if they don’t get past Alabama imo.  It also annoys me that Reggie Bush gave up his heisman for similar crap.  This stuff has no impact whatsoever on his play on the field.  Who cares?

Sunday was absurd.  FullTilt and UB kept dying at the same exact time.  I’m assuming they share servers or use the same company in charge of these servers.  It seems as though there were random outages in the middle of the country on both of these sites at the same time.  UB has admitted that they found the problem and will refund my buyins.  FullTilt has so far denied any problem on their end, and I’m fighting with them through email to try to recoup about $1,000 in buyins that I lost while the site kept dying on and off.  It definitely ruined my Sunday as I tilted off my last tournament on Pokerstars out of frustration and withdrew from everything else I was going to play.  There is nothing more tilting than bad internet or bad poker servers… especially on Sundays.

To add to my bad Sunday, my monitor died that evening.  I originally thought it was my video card.  My screen started jumping nonstop.  It also had green horizontal bars across the screen.  I took my video card from my older computer and put it in this computer and had the same problem.  I did some research online, and apparently this is a very common issue 9-18 months into the life of this monitor.  Samsung is well aware of the problem and has discontinued this model (305T syncmaster).  They were originally issuing $1,100 checks to everyone who has this monitor.  I called them in hopes of getting a similar check and just buying a new monitor with the money.  They denied ever doing this even though it was obvious she was lying.  Instead, I have to send in my monitor.  They’ll look at it in 7-14 business days upon receiving it.  If it can’t be fixed (which it definitely cannot be), they’ll send me a “new”(aka refurbished) monitor similar to the one I have.  I have no sayso over what they send me.  Based on Amazon reviews, 90% of the customers who received a “new” monitor also had problems with their “new” monitor.  I’m guessing they’re sending everyone previously damaged monitors that are now “fixed.”  Because poker is my job (and FTOPS just started yesterday), I decided to take matters into my own hands and bought a new Dell Ultrasharp instead.  I already received it and look forward to playing on it asap.

When looking at the specs of my monitor, I realized it was time to upgrade my video card.  When looking at video cards, I realized my power supply in my current computer is super weak.  None of this is really surprising to me.  I got this computer without much thought involved.  Basically, I woke up one Sunday morning in January or February, and my desktop hard drive had crashed.  I really wanted to put in a full session, so I drove to Best Buy and bought a desktop off the shelf with no research whatsoever.  I came home, set it up, installed poker on it, and ended up winning $70,000 that day… great investment.  It was a weak prebuilt computer though, and I decided on Monday to order a new one.  It’s still “in production”, but I’m hoping to get it asap.

I have no planned poker schedule currently.  I’m going to play sparingly on my laptop (no more than 6 at a time) during FTOPS.  The FTOPS schedule is pretty weak with all this rush poker and super turbo crap.  Seeing rush poker commercials on tv really tilt me.  That nonsense is bad for the game.  I hope it dies at some point.

That’s my rant for the night.  Hopefully I’ll be a bit more positive next time around.  On a side note, Nicole’s bbq beef owned tonight.

11/7/10 poker

Today, I’m just going to just post my schedule, place finished, and profit/losses live.  I’ll go back and update bustout hands, key hands, etc. tomorrow or later tonight.  I’m not keeping track of rebuys b/c it’s too difficult to do on so many tables and not really all that important.  I’m just going to assume 4 buyins for all rebuy tournaments in this blog and future blogs.

Today has sucked.  I withdrew from everything b/c FTP and UB both won’t connect.  I’ve gotten reamed in everything I played so far, and I can’t access my FTP or UB tournaments.  Will not be updating this post anymore.

I’m pretty pleased with the way I played tonight.  Overall, I ran bad with coolers and coin flips.  I should have cashed in the 1k even without my AK hand holding.  The short stack sucked out on the river to double up instead of bust 19th.  That would have been a pretty major swing even if I just mincashed.  I had a good shot in the $33 rebuy and lost half my stack trying to run a bluff against the worst player at the table.  He called me on K55 flop with A3cc.  He picked up a flush draw on turn and called me again.  I didn’t fire the river, sadly, and he won a pretty big pot with ace high.  Wish I could have avoided that in hindsight, but it would have worked against 98% of the poker population.

I quickly learned that it’s going to be very hard to update a blog like this in the middle of a Sunday session when I’m on 9+ tables.  I think I’m going to have to tone it down a bit and only post my schedule/results.  I’ll save interesting hands and discuss them a day or so after, but I think posting every bustout hand is a bit much.  Most are standard or bad beats and nothing to really learn from.

I also played a $2,350 step 10 on UB.  This wasn’t planned, but it’s hard to pass them up when they actually fill.  I had a pretty big chip lead the entire time and still had a slight lead 3-handed.  I didn’t play very well once we were down to 3.  I caught AK and AQ a few times and didn’t hit anything and kept getting called down.  I ended up busting 3rd to get my buyin back.  1st was $12,000.  I’ll be back at it on Sunday with a full schedule for the first time since September.  I’m pretty excited and expecting good things to happen.

poker blogs

For those who care to check it out, I plan on blogging during my poker sessions on Wednesday nights and Sundays.  In doing so, I’ll post my schedule, place finished, profits/losses, bustout hands, and any other interesting hands along the way.  I’ll follow up the interesting hands with own analysis the following day or so.  I’m hoping this blog will be a productive one as opposed to boring ramblings about my life.  Feel free to leave comments and let me know if I’m accomplishing that goal.

new site

I just want start off this blog by thanking High Stakes Brands for making a really cool site for me and asking me to work with them to make this company a success.  They all do really great work and are very easy to work with to get exactly what you want in a site.
